Happy Pregnancy

We became inspired to create Pregnansee in 2003 when I was pregnant with our first baby. I recall vividly how I used to spend so much time on the computer surfing for pregnancy articles, pictures and images of fetus (just to get a glimpse of how the little one was developing), getting hold of appropriate journals and books from the library, consulting my doctor and friends so as to get as much as I could on the nitty-gritty's of pregnancy. Not that I minded it (in fact it was fun stumbling on interesting sites or articles and gorging on all the juicy bits as only a novice mind can appreciate). But I know for a fact it can get a tad too tedious not to mention time-consuming for a working mother-to-be or those moms who have other children to look after.

As we all know there are zillions of informative pages out there about pregnancy which are written by professional care providers, doctors and midwives and they are all FREE! Great isn't it? Yes! Indeed it's great except that during the 10 months of pregnancy there just isn't enough time (not to mention energy) to unearth the information you really want or need to have as an expecting mom.

Since every expecting mother has her own set of concerns, curiosities and anxieties, let me share what were my Top 10 concerns when I was expecting. Who knows they may just mirror yours!

#1), #2) & #3)

Oh boy! What's happening inside..

I used to visualize the development and movement of my baby inside my womb at every given opportunity of my pregnancy. I used to imagine what my baby looked like especially those moments when I felt the flutters during the early months and the kicks and fists against my ribcage as I grew bigger. As soon as my pregnancy became more real and the feelings more poignant, those images and fetal pictures I had seen on the internet and books made more sense. Having made a connection with my baby who became more real with each passing day I remember thinking to myself 'how nice it would be if I had a collection of fetal images, a sort of pregnancy calendar that I could use as a reference tool whenever I needed'. Believe me those moments came many times!

#4)

Changes in Baby

I always used to wonder and ponder on the size of my baby at the important stages of my pregnancy: how big is my baby this week, is he/she growing well in terms of measurement, are the organs developing as they should, what change is my baby going through during this week etcetera.

#5)

Changes in me

Constantly I used to wonder if the changes in me accruing are normal, are they happening at the right time like my weight gain/stretch marks/ breast tenderness, discharge (the list is endless) etc. Is it normal to experience the discomforts I had and are there things I can do to alleviate them without harming my baby?

#6)

Good to Know

There are stuffs that are not necessary to know but they make your pregnancy all the more interesting if you knew them. These are what I would term as knick knacks - facts not important enough for your survival but they definitely add more spice to the whole pregnancy journey!

#7)

Wholesome Advice

Now these are tidbits that you don't stumble on an everyday basis but they come in handy mostly - something what your dear ones would want you to know just to make your trimesters more bearable or comfortable.

#8)

Which of my Actions can Impact My Baby's Growth

We tend to worry ourselves sick over what is right and wrong, what we should avoid and what we can consider doing when pregnant. It is not an exaggeration to say that your whole life changes now that you are pregnant. But it is also a fact that many of us tend to go overboard with our fears and concerns - this section aims to highlight some of those common worries that plague many pregnant mums and hopefully put their fears to rest.

#9)

Common Concerns

There are numerous little doubts especially for a first time mum but due to lack of opportunity or uncertainty many do not get to verbalize their concerns with their doctors. I know I did have plenty of what seemed like petty concerns but they bothered me just the same. We hope to allay your doubts with this section containing some of those common situations that can crop up.

#10) (the most important)

Nutrition

What I should be eating or should be avoiding at what stage. Plus am I eating enough, am I eating what's appropriate for me and my growing fetus? Some tips on hygiene and coverage on vitamins and supplements your body needs during pregnancy.

I remember one of my genuine wishes during my pregnancy phase was to have such a 'toolbox' - you know with just a click of a button you get to see moving images of what your fetus looks like presently plus get to read and use relevant advice. Trust me it would have made those months a whole lot easier and owning this tool would have been a wish come true!
